The Regional Development Strategy is the fundamental planning document for the sustainable socio-economic development of each region.

The Croatian Regional Development Law (Official Gazette 153/09) defines the Regional Development Strategy as a document of the local (regional) self-government setting out the goals and priorities of local (regional) self-government.

The Regional Development Strategy is adopted by the local (regional) self-government in accordance with the principles of Partnership and cooperation. The plan of development programmes which the local and territorial (regional) self-governments must adopt pursuant to the Budget Act must comply with the Regional Development Strategy.
