MET.R.IS.

The implementation of MET.R.IS. began on 30 September 2008 by signing of the contract of co-financing of the implementation of the project within the Adriatic Cross-Border Neighbourhood Programme financed from the PHARE 2006 fund.

The contract was signed between the Istrian Development Agency which was the leading partner in the project, the Central agency for financing and contracting of programmes and projects of the European Union and the Delegation of the European Commission in the Republic of Croatia. MET.R.IS. achieved the highest number of points on the ranking list of the projects evaluated by the committee and won the first place and the largest budget awarded to a project (ranking list of the approved projects - first place awarded to MET.R.IS.) Namely, the total budget of the project amounted to 740.000,00 €, where the amount co-financed by the European Union was of 485.440,00 €. The planned duration of the project was 14 months i.e. from 30 September 2008 to 30 November 2009.

The partners in the project were the Istrian Development Agency (IDA), which was the leading partner in the project, the Region of Istria and the Italian Province of Venice. The project was realised with the support of the experts of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Zagreb and of the Accredited Technical College – Polytechnic Studies in Pula.

The main goal of the project was the creation of an infrastructural basis for innovative research and development in the metals industry in the Region of Istria with the purpose to improve the level of the research and development projects put into operation and to influence the competitiveness of the Istrian and Croatian metals industry on the global market. The specific goal of the project was to provide research and development services for the small and medium sized metals industry operators (SMEs) in the Region of Istria.

The project required the reconstruction and outfitting of the structure in which the centre was to be located and the purchase of laboratory equipment. The implementation of the project also included the training of the Centre’s staff to the use of the equipment and the carrying out of the research, as well as the education aimed at students and entrepreneurs in the metals industry.

With the implementation of the project MET.R.IS. an infrastructural base for research and development has been created in Istria as a precondition for the development of innovations and application of new technologies in production. MET.R.IS., with its importance, but also with its physical location in Pula, represents a bridge of cooperation between the scientific and development institutions and the economy.

The principal activities of the Centre are offering of services of research of the quality of products and materials and creating of new or improvement of existing products, development of innovative ideas, testing of prototypes, research and development for small and medium sized enterprises and development of new technologies.
