"The Project of Implementation of the European Charter for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in the Republic of Croatia"

The project entitled "Implementation of the European Charter for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in the Republic of Croatia" was carried out in the Region of Istria starting from February 2005. The Istrian Development Agency (IDA) Ltd. was entrusted with the operational implementation of the project.

The project was promoted by the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, and its implementation was entrusted to Informest through cooperation with the Veneto region and Unioncamere Veneto. The Croatian partners in the project were the regions of Istria, Dubrova─Źko-Neretvanska and Primorsko-Goranska. The project was financed from the funds made available by the Italian Law 84/01.

In the first phase of the project an analysis of the current situation in the sector of small and medium-sized entrepreneurship was made, a meeting of institutions relevant for the small and medium-sized entrepreneurship was held, a leaflet of the project for the Region of Istria was published, a survey of small and medium-sized enterprises was conducted and several seminars as well as a Small and Medium-sized Enterprises' Week were held.

In the second phase of the project that began in June 2005, three workgroups were formed:

  • "Baza podataka", aiming to define a model for the creation of a comprehensive database for small and medium-sized enterprises (companies and trades) for the Region of Istria. Members of the workgroup were representatives of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts, the county department for economy and the Istrian Development Agency.
  • "Baza podataka"", workgroup organized by VINE Veneto. Six-day seminars were held with a total of some 20 participants from cities, municipalities, agencies, county departments and tourist boards, focusing on topics such as writing of projects, project applications, management of projects and project cycles, writing of project summaries, filling-in project forms, budget calculation, etc.
  • "Baza podataka" workgroup was formed with the aim of defining a marketing strategy for the presentation and positioning of the "IQ" quality trade mark for the wines made from the Istrian Malvasia grapes. Members of the workgroup were wine producers, the Vinistra Association, the Rural Development Agency, the Region of Istria Administrative Department for Tourism and the Istrian Development Agency.
